He asked a question that went something like this. He said, "What is the difference between those of us who are Christians, and those in our world who do not know Jesus Christ?" He said that the difference is that Christians have peace, whereas those in the world without Christ do not have that peace. As believers we maintain a personal relationship with the Prince of Peace.
One of the foundational Scripture passages of that great church is found in Philippians 4:6-7. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
The Bible exhorts believers to not be anxious about anything. In other words, DO NOT WORRY!! Worry produces sickness and disease. Worry produces emotional breakdowns. Worry causes men and women to lose sleep at night. Why worry? Worry has always been counterproductive. Worry has never led to anything good.
True, we are all tempted to worry. But God gives us His plan to deal with the attacks of worry and fear. In everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Bring your situation to God and tap into his power to deliver you from any situation. His power is far greater than your problem.
The band Lifehouse is a group of young men who are Christians singing in today's pop culture. On their first album there are songs that are chock full of the ministry of the Word of God. In the song Somewhere In Between, I found these words. This is over my head, but under my feet
That should be our perspective when the big problems press against us. This problem is over my head. It is too big for me. But I don't have to face it by myself. I am in Jesus and I am part of his body, and all things are under His feet, so this problem is under my feet.
When you pray, then you begin to see that the ability of God is greater than your problem. This problem may be over my head, but in Jesus name, it is under my feet. I have the victory.
With that perspective comes peace. Paul called it the peace of God that transcends all understanding. I have experienced times in my life, when the path ahead looked so rocky. But in the midst of that situation, I found his peace. It seemed like I should be so worried. But his peace was there. His peace transcended my understanding of my situation.
In this Christmas season I want to encourage you to thank God once again for the Incarnation. Emmanuel, God with us. God's son was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and later gave his life for our sin and was raised by the power of God, ever living to make intercession for us.
The people in the world around us are broken and confused. Yes, they can put on a good front sometimes. But, inside there is fear and worry about the the present, and about the future. They look to the government to provide the security that only God can provide.
Many can't sleep without pills. Multitudes daily battle depression. Others escape the pressure of this life through alcohol, drugs and illicit sex.
All the while the Prince of Peace has come. And he stands at the door of their hearts, and he knocks, wanting to come in and to fill their hearts with his peace.
Most believers are fully aware of the command to be witnesses. During this Christmas season I challenge you to become a witness of his peace that transcends all understanding.
Allow God to daily fill your heart with his peace. As you walk day by day in this world full of God's peace, people around you will begin to notice. Over time they will be drawn to you. They will want to know, what it is about you that makes you different.
Enjoy this holiday season. Enjoy your family, the food, and the presents. And give thanks that the Prince of Peace has come for you.
