Proverbs 17:17a: A friend loveth at all times.
In life we have many acquaintances, but usually only a few true friends. Now there are many people we may call friends, but the Bible says that a friend loveth at all times. A true friend will not stab you in the back. A true friend will not kick you when you are down. A true friend will not desert you when the hard times come. A true friend will stick with you regardless of the intensity of the winds of adversity.
A true friend will love you in spite of your weaknesses, mistakes and inconsistencies. That love means that your friend will not desert you, however, it also means that your friend will speak the truth to you even when it hurts. That is one reason why some people want "party friends," but not true friends. Some people don't want to hear the truth.
How many true friends do you have? You may realize that you don't have very many true friends.
How do you obtain more true friends? Be a true friend!! Are you a true friend to others? Will you stick with them in spite of their faults and failures? As you learn to be a good friend, then you will find that you will have good friends.
True friends are a gift from God. They are a precious treasure in this life. Be thankful for your real friends, but be open to new friendships. There may be someone hurting, who needs the gift from God of your friendship.
